Part 2
Embedded co-design and evaluation of feasibility of interventions
Data collection:
There will be four workshops per site, 12 workshops among three sites.
In each workshop, the participants will be made up of hospital staff and patients, with no more than 16 participants.
1. Workshop One (In-Person): This workshop will utilise visual materials and tools to conceptualize the issues and pathways identified from observations and ethnographic design work following Part One.
2. Workshop Two (Online): Focusing on emerging themes and issues identified from Workshop One, this online workshop will lay the foundation for the intervention focus.
3. Workshop Three (In-Person): Building upon the chosen theme(s) from Workshop Two, participants will develop prototypes and explore potential opportunities in this workshop.
4. Workshop Four (Online): In this online workshop, participants will refine the solutions developed in Workshop Three and deliver design interventions that aim to enhance the blood culture pathway.
Data analysis:
Co-design workshop outputs will be synthesised, including visual analysis of workshop outputs, discussions, and summary of the rationale of ideation and development of the design interventions. Initial interventions generated from across the three sites will be compared to identify shared solutions for behaviour change and collective action. Evaluation interviews and focus groups will be analysed using a thematic analysis approach using the NASSS framework as sensitising concepts.
Outputs:
A bundle of interventions to optimise practices along the pre-analytic blood culture pathway, which will be implementable across diverse health care settings; publication reporting the interventions.
A range of mixed media outputs will include a set of visual tools for hospital staff to identify their current blood cultural pathways and processes with templates to scaffold inquiry of existing practices and opportunities.
Video will be used to provide narratives to support the research findings, approaches and interventions from our study in a format that can be easily shared across different stakeholders - patient groups and staff.
A set of service blueprints for with prototyped interventions to show how the interventions strengthen current systems of good practice around blood culture sampling.
A set of prototyped policy recommendations that will further support blood culture sampling practices.
