Co-design materials for  PPI workshops

We organised both online and in-person workshops, involving 14 participants from the PPI group who had personal experience with sepsis or blood cultures. Each session lasted one hour. We prepared visual materials and invited participants to share their experiences regarding blood culture collection and sepsis, as well as provide feedback on early ideations. Both printed and digital materials were provided to support engagement.

To open the conversation and help participants understand each other’s prior experiences, we began with warm-up activities. Participants were invited to place red stickers under corresponding categories to indicate their previous experiences, followed by a brief self-introduction to the group.

The main discussion was structured around key stages of the blood culture pathway:
> 1. Being informed about the blood culture test
> 2. Sharing the blood collection experience
> 3. Receiving blood culture results and follow-up
> 4. Discussing potential design ideas

Participants used visual stickers to highlight their experiences along the pathway journey, shared their stories, and wrote comments at different stages.

The outcome of the PPI workshops was transforming shared stories into story cards, which were then used in subsequent workshops with clinical staff to help them better understand the patient perspective.
