Individual Information:
I studied Psychology at the University of Leicester and International Politics for a Masters at Durham University. Following three years of professional employment in the field of international development which led me to Belgium, West Africa and Germany, I returned to academia and completed my research towards a PhD in decision theory at the University of Leicester. I held several research posts with the Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Leicester before being appointed as a Lecturer in Psychology in the School of Psychology and Vision Sciences.
My research pertains to the Psychology of medical decision making and public health risk literacy. Using mixed-methods designs, I study perceptions of risks and uncertainty underlying medical treatment choices. Current projects include an ESRC-funded investigation of metaphor use to communicate risk information about antimicrobial resistance and an NIHR-funded programme to understand behaviours related to blood culture sampling and antibiotic stewardship in hospitals
